The following are the main points:-

1. The safe deposit boxes in the Hongkong & Shanghai Bank have now been opened: Gold, U.K. Currency, U.S. A. Currency must not be removed: Gold ornaments may be withdrawn: It is believed that the officers who opened the boxes helped themselves to precious stones and other valuabies.
2. Communications:
Shipping service to Shanghai still suspended.

Kowloon motor service greatly restricted owing to petrol shortage.
3. Most streets are empty after 5 p.m. The Chung Hwan and the Shang Hwan streets are fairly busy. Thefts and robberies with assault are not uncommon on Chung Hwan St. in broad daylight.
4. Rice is rationed: 6 ozs. per head per day. is high. Black market active.
5. Naval and Army police patrol the City. police keep a sharp watch for smuggling.
